In a quiet week on the earnings front I'm drawn to Thursday. That's when we'll be getting some hot casino action as Mandalay Resort Group (NYSE: MBG) and Shuffle Master (Nasdaq: SHFL) turn over their cards to reveal their quarterly hands.
Ever since Mandalay accepted a $7.9 billion marriage proposal from MGM Mirage (NYSE: MGG) earlier this year I'll admit to being disinterested. Go ahead. Elope. However, Shuffle Master is one company that has always made my heart skip a beat.

St. Louis, MO, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Barb Tanner has become the first woman to win the Budweiser Poker Classic in the 23-year history of the St. Louis tourney.
Tanner, 63, beat out 809 other competitors to take the title Wednesday with a royal flush as final table of seven played seven-card stud.

WPT Enterprises, Inc., creators of the World Poker Tour television series that airs on Travel Channel, announced today that it has signed several new license agreements as part of its comprehensive brand licensing program.
HarperCollins Publishers, the global English-language publishers, will market WPT poker strategy books. The first book in the series is expected to launch at retail in March 2005 to coincide with the WPT Season 3 launch on Travel Channel.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The state agency that regulates legalized gambling in Connecticut is echoing Attorney General Richard Blumenthal's statement that barroom poker tournaments are illegal.
The state Division of Special Revenue issued a statement Wednesday after getting several inquiries.
