CHAPEL HILL -- With no show of nervousness, University of North Carolina senior Deak Childress pushes more money than his entire education has cost him into the middle of the poker table.
The tournament began with $400,000 worth of chips spread evenly among 80 players. After this hand, Childress will have every last one of the chips -- and a championship to boot.

HARRISBURG - It doesn't take an act of Congress to get a friendly card game together, but it can take a City Council meeting. That was the case in Harrisburg two weeks ago, when the owners of the Ron-D-Voo Tavern went before the council to get a license to hold a poker tournament.
A city ordinance there prohibits gambling, except for the state lottery. But it makes exceptions for events such as church bingo and "social games," where there is no house player and no income from the operation of the game.

With the World Poker Tour(TM) (WPT) television series expanding its distribution on the international forefront, WPT Enterprises, Inc. (Nasdaq:WPTE) announced today that it has entered into an agreement to work with online gaming company WagerWorks Inc. to offer a WPT-branded, international, real-money gaming website in countries where it is legal for U.S. companies to operate gaming businesses. The site will prohibit or block bets from players in the U.S. and other jurisdictions where online gaming is prohibited.
