Poker tourney a hit with promoter

VERONA -- Flushed with the success of the American Poker Championships at Turning Stone Casino Resort Wednesday, promoter Rick Kulis is planning to return to the venue for more televised events.

"We're coming back," said Kulis, president of Hollybrook Regency Inc. His California firm brokered the deal with Fox Sports Net to broadcast Wednesday's million-dollar poker tournament live from the Oneida Indian Nation's casino.

Harrah's Near Agreement to Buy Caesars Entertainment

Harrah's Entertainment Inc., a U.S. operator of riverboat casinos, is close to an agreement to buy Caesars Entertainment Inc., the Wall Street Journal reported, citing unidentified people close to the talks.

Fresh poker faces: Old game attracts younger players to local tables

T.J. Young called him an up-and-comer, one of the fresh faces at the poker table, a member of the younger generation getting hooked on an old game.

Young, who's run a poker game in Bozeman for the past 30 years, said 20-year-old Eric Milliken is just one of large contingent of young card players breathing new life into a sport that once catered primarily to an older demographic in Montana.
A sport? While poker takes no physical ability to play, it is a mental game and is now broadcast on a variety of cable networks, including ESPN, which features the World Series of Poker, and the Travel Channel, which touts the World Poker Tour.

Bars told to end "poker nights'' promotions

STAMFORD, Conn. -- There's nothing wrong with a friendly poker game among friends, but Attorney General Richard Blumenthal says "poker nights" being held at some Connecticut bars are illegal.

Blumenthal Tuesday sent a letter to four bars, three in Stamford and one in Hamden, urging them to stop holding weekly "poker nights."

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Wireless phone company Cingular was okay with the gambling on "Celebrity Poker Showdown." It was the drinking and cussing it couldn't handle.
