The Women’s Poker Club have announced their first land based tournament to be held in Las Vegas from the 9th to the 11th September. The event will be an all female poker tournament to be held at Binion’s Horseshoe and hosted by two leading figures in the world of poker, Lou Krieger who wrote the books “Hold’em Excellence” and “Poker for Dummies”, and Barbara Enright, a member of the Women’s Poker Club who is also the first woman to make the final table at a World Series of Poker tournament.

It was just a few years ago that poker rooms were closing at casinos across the city. MGM Grand, the Venetian, and Harrah's all closed theirs around 2000, citing a lack of interest in the game and a need to use the space for other, more lucrative gaming endeavors (read: more slots).
Now, with poker tournaments on just about every cable television channel, from ESPN to Bravo, the poker rooms are making a comeback, including a return to Harrah's. The hotel recently opened a new poker room featuring 10 tables offering seven card stud, Omaha and, of course, Texas hold 'em, all with various limits to appeal to all levels of gamblers.

MANSFIELD -- The weekend was everything but relaxing for Jeff Smith. He spent Friday through Sunday in a stuffy room engaged in fierce mental competition. But he's not complaining -- he won $40,000.
Smith, of Mansfield, was one of more than 550 players in the weekend-long Las Vegas Night No Limit Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament at the Knights of Columbus Hall. The event raised $16,000 for the Butler Adult Center and divided $73,000 among the first- through sixth-place winners.

Six men playing poker in an East Toledo garage were robbed Thursday night by two men armed with handguns, police said.
The victims were playing cards in the garage behind a house on Kingston Avenue when the two suspects entered and ordered the poker players onto the floor.

The British agency, also known as NHTCU, arrested three men in connection with a series of raids that targeted an online "protection" racket that threatened to crash Web sites unless the gang was paid off. More arrests are expected.
The gangs allegedly were targeting online-betting companies around the world, including several big British names.
