Europe's Biggest Poker Tournament Now Bigger Than Ever at Holland Casino Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, October 27 /PRNewswire/ -- From November 6 until 13, 2004, the Holland Casino Amsterdam will host the biggest poker tournament in Europe - The Master Classics of Europe - for the thirteenth time. Over eight days, the best poker players from all over the world (including the US, France, Great Britain, Austria, and Germany) will try to outplay each other at the tournament. Compared to previous years, this year's tournament is even bigger. For one, 270 players will compete compared to 220. Also, the final rounds will be held the next day at 5 p.m., except on Tuesday. The prize money has increased as well: Last year's prize fund was already more than EUR 1.4 million and this year another EUR 63,000 has been added.

Harrah's releases World Series of Poker schedule

Harrah's Entertainment Inc. expects to host an estimated 5,000 players during the final no-limit Texas hold 'em championship game of the World Series of Poker next year -- about double the number that competed this year.

The World Series of Poker is scheduled to begin June 2 and will run through July 15.

Deadwood poker event still planned, but won't be televised

DEADWOOD - Poker players still will ply their trade in Deadwood in October, but it won't be on national television, promoters said.

Last week, Bill Walsh, owner of the Franklin Hotel on Deadwood's Main Street, said ESPN had confirmed that the northern Black Hills gambling town would be a backdrop for two days of videotaping the ''World Series of Poker.

The Women’s Poker Club have announced their first land based tournament to be held in Las Vegas from the 9th to the 11th September. The event will be an all female poker tournament to be held at Binion’s Horseshoe and hosted by two leading figures in the world of poker, Lou Krieger who wrote the books “Hold’em Excellence” and “Poker for Dummies”, and Barbara Enright, a member of the Women’s Poker Club who is also the first woman to make the final table at a World Series of Poker tournament.

MANSFIELD -- The weekend was everything but relaxing for Jeff Smith. He spent Friday through Sunday in a stuffy room engaged in fierce mental competition. But he's not complaining -- he won $40,000.

Smith, of Mansfield, was one of more than 550 players in the weekend-long Las Vegas Night No Limit Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament at the Knights of Columbus Hall. The event raised $16,000 for the Butler Adult Center and divided $73,000 among the first- through sixth-place winners.
