Harrah's Entertainment Inc. expects to host an estimated 5,000 players during the final no-limit Texas hold 'em championship game of the World Series of Poker next year -- about double the number that competed this year.
The World Series of Poker is scheduled to begin June 2 and will run through July 15.

Poker Legend Draws 312 Players to Tournament with More Than $3 Million Total Prize Money; WPT Honors Doyle Brunson with Addition of 16th Tour Stop
In a show of respect for all-time poker great Doyle Brunson, hundreds of players made an appointment with the WORLD POKER TOUR(TM) and its new tournament honoring the man who memorialized the 10-2 poker hand. The inaugural event started Tuesday at Bellagio, Las Vegas. One of the most venerable names in poker, Brunson captured his first of nine World Champion bracelets in 1976 and his first WORLD POKER TOUR win less than two months ago. The Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship attracted 312 players, driving the total prize pool to $3,026,400 on the sixth stop of the acclaimed WORLD POKER TOUR. Jack's back.
Jack Binion, who hosted the first World Series of Poker at the Horseshoe in downtown Las Vegas in 1970, has agreed to host the World Series of Poker Tournament Circuit. Binion says his new gig is purely honorary, a residual from selling Horseshoe Gaming Holdings Corporation to Harrah's Entertainment.

Following the success of a bunch of celebrity TV shows that revolved around poker, film director Zak Penn is taking the next step – shooting a full-featured comedy about an international poker tournament, pokergazette.com reported.
The film will feature Ben Affleck and David Schwimmer, both of whom have become poker aficionados, William H. Macy, who learned a lot about gambling while filming Oscar-nominated "The Cooler", Chicago favorite Richard Kind, and German film director Werner Herzog who will be wearing his actor's hat.

Annie Duke beat out her older brother and eight other poker legends to win $2 million and the World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions.
The 39-year-old Duke outlasted the other players in an grueling game held earlier this month at the Rio hotel-casino.

With the WORLD POKER TOUR(TM) (WPT) setting records for numbers of players and prize pools at its Season 3 tournament events, WPT Enterprises, Inc. (WPTE) announced a ten-year commitment to its partner casinos by exercising its contract options. WPTE plans to schedule a minimum of 15 WPT-sanctioned events each year, averaging one or more each month through 2013. In conjunction with this commitment, WPT published its Season 4, 5, and 6 tournament schedules through 2008. The WORLD POKER TOUR is the highest-rated television show in the history of the Travel Channel, airing every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. PT/ET.
