I’ll admit it. I was nervous Tuesday as I entered Pilot’s Pub for my first poker night.
All right, I was more than nervous. My heart was racing, I could feel the blood rush to my head and my palms were sweating. I had no idea what the night held for me.
I paid the $20 buy-in. That may have been my first mistake.

Clonie Gowen knows what it’s like to be the only woman at the table. She polished her poker skills in casinos while her young daughter spent weekends with her ex-husband.
“I was supplementing my income a pretty good amount. Almost $2,000 a month, I was clearing,” Gowen says.
After seven years of playing to make extra cash, Gowen decided to go “all in” and turn poker into a profession.

It'll be one sweet ride home from the card table now that Wichita Falls firefighters have reshuffled the prizes of their charity poker tournament.
Without the new deal, there could have been trouble in the casino on July 31. Although all proceeds will go to Operation Santa Claus, the district attorney's office found a seedy looking Joker in the prize structure.

Daniel Negreanu has never been to a Grand Rapids Griffins game, but says he isn't bluffing when he calls them his favorite minor-league hockey team.
The 29-year-old Toronto native has been wearing a white Griffins jersey as a competitor on "Championship Poker at the Plaza" on FOX Sports Network. The show is telecast several times a week, including at 9 p.m. Sunday.

She just hit her bellybuster on the river, bet it up and watched the dealer sweep a pile of chips her way across the smooth green felt. A grin broke across her face and she elbowed her sister, Rose, who forced a smile.

Poker, poker everywhere, but nary a place to play.
The five-card craze has spawned a plethora of poker-themed television shows, Web sites where rookies can test their skills and even a magazine called All In, which debuted in May. According to the American Gaming Association, poker revenue in the state of Nevada rose 18.2% last year, while New Jersey saw a 14.2% increase. But while the game's popularity is spreading, finding a casino with a great poker room can be more difficult than you'd expect.
